Do you think the movie creators do a good job portraying books?

Do you think the movie creators do a good job portraying books?

Personally, certain movies are better than books but some movies are great disappointments to the book lovers.

Some honorable mentions (movies > books) are:

  • Forrest Gump
  • The Wizard of Oz
  • Jaws
  • Bridget Jones’ Diary

On the other hand, there are movies (and it’s safe to say mostly) that are not as good as their respective books.

Why do you think that some movies are better than the books while some as not as good as the books?

What do you think a movie creator can do to improve the quality of the film so it meets the book lovers’ expectations?

I think that movies should consult the author on how certain characters look and are portrayed, for starters - especially with multiracial characters as movies have a habit of whitewashing stuff :grimacing:

As well as that, they should avoid cutting loads of stuff out of the book and adding stuff into the movie that wasn’t in the original book. ie - stick as close to the original as possible and all that
Because most movie-makers don’t actually do this, I almost always prefer the book to the movie, especially if I read the book first. The movie just never feels right after I’ve read the book. The characters don’t act the way I expect them too and we miss all that internal dialogue stuff. actually, in Eragon, they changed so much that the movie barely resembled the book anymore

Agreed, this is the worst part. These movies trigger me.

Do not whitewash characters of color to make white viewers “comfortable”

For example, if a character is dark skinned, described as dark skinned or is fully black and monoracial… there is no need for you to change her into a light skinned biracial girl with loose curls.

They should also stop including unnecessary stuffs. They should stick with the plot, and stop including unnecessary romances (ex: Narnia chronicles movie with that romance)
