How long do you think a chapter should be when writing?

This usually depends on the writer when they start writing. The amount of pages a chapter should be has always been debatable. The truthful question is “How long do you want to make your chapter?” in reality. For me, I tend to read books with long chapters in them since that is how most adult romance novels are written. Note, when I start writing in draft form I tend to break the chapters up into sections before making them a full chapter. This question would also fit the “How many lines do you put into your episodes?” category as well.

For me, this is what I would go by:

Harlequin Novel - Chapters need to be 10-15 pages long
Adult Romance - Chapters need to be 15-25 pages long
Children’s Books - Chapter needs to be 10- 12 pages long
Other Fiction Novels - Chapters need to be 15-25 pages long

For Episode:

My lines are usually between 1200-3000 lines depending on the story. That does include directing usually.

What are your specified lengths for chapters? Do you focus on writing separate chapters when writing or do you continuously write then break the chapters up later? How many lines do you put into your episodes?

I’m not exactly sure since I’m not a writer myself, but I do have 1 question: What’s a harlequin novel?

I go by word count always. 1500-3000 words will be hopefully enough, since as a reader I hate short chapters as well as chapters that are too long so I wouldn’t want my readers to suffer that too-

I usually set my sights for 3000 words for when the chapter ends. However, most of my early work definitely suffered from that and I wouldn’t doubt if someone thought my work was drawn out and boring because of that (Something I hope I can learn to adapt or make better so it doesn’t do that)

These are harlequin novels are short romance novels that range from 186-256 pages. You will know what they are when you see the picture. They are small little white books sometimes. They also look like this:

Short romance? How long is long romance, then?

Most romance novels are between 300-400+ pages.

Wow. That story must be really interesting to be that long. (I can’t do a slowburn that goes too slow)

It really depends on the genre and type of book. Like comedy adult books with 5-10 pages for each chapter isn’t bad at all, especially if it’s filled with jokes.

If it’s pure hardcore action adult I need 15-30 pages. Some books have long chapters that feel short depending on your level of reading.

For manga/manhwa/webtoon I just need long panels or something that takes up to 3-6 minutes to read (which I think is rare unless it’s full of art scenes).

I read romance novels that are usually supernatural based stories so it’s very entertaining. It just depends on what the book is about.

Hm, I don’t ever read romance novels (or romance anything for that matter) But I know a friend who’d probably like those too. Can you name any supernatural romances off the top of your head so I can recommend them? (Also, that’s clever to make a interesting base I commend thy authors)

Yeah, it brings in a wholesome element when reading the books.

Sure, I can recommend some good choices. These are from different authors but I do love these series.

Dark Series by Christine Feehan (Note most of the books are based on the year they were written in)
Dark-Hunters Series by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Love At Stake Series by Kerrilyn Sparks
NightCreature Series by Lori Handeland
Jaz Park Series by Jennifer Rardin
