This usually depends on the writer when they start writing. The amount of pages a chapter should be has always been debatable. The truthful question is “How long do you want to make your chapter?” in reality. For me, I tend to read books with long chapters in them since that is how most adult romance novels are written. Note, when I start writing in draft form I tend to break the chapters up into sections before making them a full chapter. This question would also fit the “How many lines do you put into your episodes?” category as well.
For me, this is what I would go by:
Harlequin Novel - Chapters need to be 10-15 pages long
Adult Romance - Chapters need to be 15-25 pages long
Children’s Books - Chapter needs to be 10- 12 pages long
Other Fiction Novels - Chapters need to be 15-25 pages long
For Episode:
My lines are usually between 1200-3000 lines depending on the story. That does include directing usually.
What are your specified lengths for chapters? Do you focus on writing separate chapters when writing or do you continuously write then break the chapters up later? How many lines do you put into your episodes?
