What do you struggle with most as an Artist?

We all have our issues with drawing and painting. Hell, maybe even other forms of mixed media you partake in! I know I have serious issues when I’m making things like carvings and prints because I usually carve way too deep and it doesn’t come out clean :joy:

But recently my biggest issue has been with illustration - my passion. I’m so damn slow at drawing! It takes me hours to do basic character designs and they don’t look as good as they could when I cut time off. It’s very frustrating, for sure, and there aren’t many ways to help with thus besides just drawing more and drawing consistently. This starts to help very quickly for sure, but it still frustrates me that it takes me so long to do very simple things.

So let’s share! Maybe even help each other if we can :joy:

Right now? Drawing damn wolf paws, they seem so simple yet complicated at the same time

But in general I think I struggle most with just leaving things as they are. Like I’ll look at my work and go: " Oh that looks nice, let me see if I can make it look nicer"

~Proceeds to mess up the work~

I just add too much! My mind refuses to learn that simple things look good as well! :expressionless:

Paws in general can be difficult, mammal legs are super weird with the joints and our brains go ‘that doesn’t look right’ when we’re drawing them because they’re so different to human legs. But toe beans are fun!

God do I get this. A lot of this is that what I wanna add are things I know would make it look better, I’m just not good enough at them yet! Adding depth to colour is so hard

noses

Why do they exist?

I don’t mean cartoon noses I mean realistic ones

Noses are evil. The part of the face you need the most practice with to actually start getting it down because it’s mostly smooth bevels with no edges. The mouth, eyes, ears, and jaw all have edges that can be accentuated with depth and shading. But noses and cheekbones are all in the shading. Makes it difficult :joy:

Ohh, that makes sense!
Toe beans are really fun! I think I’m gonna go search for some anatomy on paws, and then I shall continue =D

It reallyyy is! I spent an hour on painting this one background, everything blended in nicely except for one part, so I tried to fix that and then turns out the rest of the colours didn’t fit with it and then so on.

NJFBIUERUIE I agree 100%, If your nose doesn’t look right, your whole face won’t look right :expressionless:

And they’re irritating to shade as well.

The minute I hear ‘I’m gonna go look at anatomy on…’ Immediately makes me happy. You’re on the right track if you’re getting reference! I used to draw a lot of wolves and foxes, personally, so I know the pain of haunches and paws. They can be super weird to get used to. Nowadays I love giving my characters animal features! Just takes anatomy study and practice really

I struggle at hair and eyes. Its so hard for me

Hair is ridiculously complex, so I get that. The more detailed you want to make it the harder it gets too
